Water conservation game launches
Environmental charity Global Action Plan (GAP) has launched an interactive water conservation game station in a bid to encourage users to save water.
The Water Explorer game, which was unveiled today as part of World Water Week (21-27 August), demonstrates the importance of cutting domestic water use and provides users with a personal water plan containing practical tips.
According to a recent poll by GAP, just one in five people consider taking the lead in saving water. The charity hopes the game will engage consumers and help to tackle the issue of water sustainability by educating users about the link between water, climate change and everyday habits.
GAP’s chief executive officer, Trewin Restorick, said: “The rapid rise in living standards and population growth threatens the sustainability of water resources and the environment.
“The compound effect of making simple lifestyle changes, such as using water more efficiently in the home, or understanding which products are more water intensive than others, is significant, so we have commissioned the Water Explorer to get a positive and practical message across to make this behaviour change happen.”
The Water Explorer, which can be hired for corporate and public events, has three games of varying difficulty levels that ask users a series of questions about the amount of tap, pump or flush water ordinary household tasks require.
On completion users find out how much water is hidden in everyday items and how much water people in different countries use, along with the personal water reduction plan.
