Water research funds available

The Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF) is accepting applications for funding for 25 of 35 projects the foundation has approved for research beginning in 2000. With a total value of $5 million, the research subjects were chosen via input from the foundation's subscribers.


Specific research projects eligible for funding have been grouped under the following areas:

  • collection and treatment systems
  • human health effects
  • beneficial biosolids reuse
  • water reuse
  • watershed management
  • ecosystem management

WERF is a non-profit organisation affiliated with the Water Environment Federation. It is funded through voluntary contributions and grants and addresses water quality issues with a commitment to environmental protection, economic conservancy and enhanced quality of life. WERF subscribers represent wastewater utilities serving more than 65% of America’s sewered population and more than 60 corporations that share WERF’s water-quality concerns.

Proposals for funding are due by 29 October.
