The installation, supplied by Waterwise Technology, includes an ozone treatment system for water used in cooling towers, which will reduce consumption by 15%, while effluent water from the towers will be processed and recycled.

Projections indicate that the system could recycle up to 75 tonnes of water per day, reducing the amount of water discharged to drains by 75% and save approximately 190 tonnes of carbon per year once the terminal is fully operational.

Waterwise Technology managing director Jon Fielder explained: “Cooling towers serving air conditioning systems are frequently the largest water user in a commercial office building or terminal such as this. The ability to make savings in the water consumption of the cooling towers will therefore substantially reduce the overall water consumption of the building.”
