The Government-backed Waste & Resources Action Programme is believed to be preparing to scrap a major fund used to support the recycling industry.
The Recycling Fund, used to make significant investment in infrastructure and the delivery of British recycling, is expected to be dropped by the programme later this year.
It is thought that regulations controlling state aid for industry are at the root of the problem, rather than a simple shortage of funds.
The organisation refused to confirm or deny the plans but edie understands that WRAP will announce its intentions for the future of the scheme this Wednesday, October 4.
