Reach talks on track for partial deal this year
Government talks on the proposed Reach EU chemical policy reform are well on track to produce a partial agreement by the end of this year, Dutch presidency officials say. The latest round of negotiations finished last week. Presidency officials now tentatively forecast full agreement for around July next year.
New Energy Commissioner warned to cut energy waste
As the new European Energy Commissioner Laszlo Kovacs was appointed along with his 34 colleagues in the forum, this week, a coalition of non-governmental organisations launched a report warning he must act to curb massive energy waste from Central and Eastern European countries.
Good river quality for now but new ecological methods mean results will drop
The government released its river water quality results this week, one of the 15 headline indicators of sustainable development. At the same time it announced that it was changing its methods of assessment in order to prepare for the stringent nature of the water framework directive.
