Ballycroy opens water treatment plant to public

According to Mayonews.ie, schoolchildren will get a taste first, visiting on Friday afternoon.

Sean Corrigan, a part time manager at the plant, told Mayonews: “There is no comparison with the taste of the treated water, which is crystal clear in comparison to the untreated water.

“All credit must go to all the people who helped make this possible because this is great news of the community.

“It is great to have treated water you can drink from the tap after years of having to boil the water beforehand.”

Water quality in Ballycroy was found in 1995 to have high levels of E-coli contamination, with a formal complaint lodged by a resident of the town with the European Commission.
