Brits confess to recycling for sake of their pets

A study from pet food firm Purina found that nearly two-thirds (63%) of British pet owners (63%) aspire to be “good to the environment” for the sake of their pet as much as any family member.

When asked specifically about recycling, 29% of owners said that they do it to protect the environment for their pet. Overall, 88% of them stated they recycle their household waste either ‘always’ or ‘often’ but despite this, only 74% bother to recycle their steel pet food cans.

The survey also revealed that one-third (34%) of respondents would like to do more to protect the environment for the sake of their pet.

When asked what would encourage them to recycle more, around half (48%) said that better local recycling facilities would help and about one fifth (18%) said that knowing it made a difference to their dog and cat’s future would drive them to do more recycling.

In addition 66% of those polled also use low energy light bulbs, 48% pick up litter, 43% use low energy electrical appliances while 37% use products made from recycled materials.

Purina brands Felix and Winalot have launched a campaign ‘Together We Can’ to encourage more cat and dog owners to recycle their steel pet food cans.
