Call for ‘systematic’ approach to workplace carbon

In Cutting workplace carbon, not competitiveness Low Carbon Workplace argue for a resolute approach to cutting emissions.

The report, released today (July 21), is based on a speech delivered by Low Carbon Workplace managing director, Katharine Deas, earlier this year at the Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme (CRCEES) conference.

According to the report: “While all buildings are capable of some level of carbon emissions reduction, to maximise the size and impact of these reductions means carbon needs to be managed out – and kept out.”

The report states this must be done ‘at every step’ while working with stakeholders to sustain the change.

Mrs Deas said: “Carbon can creep into buildings at every step from design to operation and occupation unless it is systematically managed out by all stakeholders – no easy feat in a siloed industry.

“Yet sticking resolutely to a programmatic approach can cut workplace carbon significantly, in an enduring way, often at low cost.”
