Coca-Cola on track to fully abolish HFC fridges

HFC (hydrofluorocarbon), a greenhouse gas, is used as a traditional refrigerant in cooling systems. HFC-free refrigerants such as hydrocarbon and CO2 are natural, with minimal impact.

CCE says its transition to HFC-free is part of the company’s wider energy and climate change commitments which also include an absolute reduction in the carbon footprint of its operations by 15% by 2020.

CCE associate director of technical solutions Chris Childs said: “Over the last two years our Cooler Services team has worked with our sales and indirect procurement teams, as well as collaborating closely with our suppliers, to prioritise the commercialisation of 27 cooler models.

“Completing this in the timeframe set out is a huge achievement as it usually takes at least three months to commercialise each cooler model.”
