Four community projects have been awarded a total of £20,000 for their ideas on waste awareness workshops, educational workshops and re-use swap shops.
The funding was made available to community sector and not-for-profit organisations to encourage communities to get involved in sustainable waste management.
The projects range from showing how low income parents can reduce, re-use and recycle waste and a recycling video game for schoolchildren.
Director of Veolia Environmental Services Merseyside & Halton, Alex Paterson, said: “We hope that the projects we have chosen will bring positive changes to the local community and promote recycling and sustainability.”
The projects will run throughout 2011.
