Producer responsibility obligation (PRO)

DEFINITION: A concept aimed at delivering sustainable development by making producers responsible for the end-of-life management of their products. Producer responsibility laws in the UK cover packaging, electrical and electronic equipment (EEE), batteries and end of life vehicles (ELVs). The regulations require businesses to minimise waste arising from these products and promote their re-use.
