Devon’s Ton Up Recyclers

The paper is collected by the Devon Authorities Waste Reduction and Recycling Committee, a partnership of all 11 local authorities and community groups across the County. Congratulating local residents for the part they played, chairman of the committee, East Devon Cllr Ann Liverton, said: “Devon’s recycling rate is 20 percent, which is very good, but we need more people to recycle if government targets are to be reached. We congratulate the recyclers of Devon and urge them to persuade those who don’t recycle of the benefits to be gained. Recycling reduces the amount of rubbish we bury in landfill sites, conserves natural resources, reduces pollution and creates employment.”

Aylesford’s recycling manager Chris White commented: “This is a terrific landmark by one supplier, albeit the collective achievement of a number of local authorities in partnership with local community groups. It just goes to show how inroads can be made in meeting Government recycling targets.”
