Funding to tackle Scottish fridge mountains

“Safe disposal of items containing CFCs is a global problem,” said Environment Minister Ross Finnie. “The money we are announcing today is additional to £1.69 million announced in March. This additional money will go a long way to help Scotland meet its responsibilities and protect our environment.”

Glasgow will receive the largest grant of £340,000, with Edinburgh, Fife, Aberdeenshire and the Highlands each receiving around £200,000. The remainder will be distributed between other Scottish cities and counties.

The funding comes from a government fund of £21 million allocated to the development of recycling markets, waste minimisation and the disposal of waste fridges and hazardous waste (see related story).
