The ‘Innovations in Environmental Sustainability Council’ was announced last week (January 17) by IBM and the World Environment Center (WEC). Other big corporates involved include The Dow Chemical Company, General Motors, and Johnson & Johnson.
Under the initiative, member companies will be tasked with embedding sustainability more deeply into business strategy and corporate practice. Learning and outcomes from the collaboration aim to improve efficiency and effectiveness throughout business operations and identify opportunities for growth.
The council was created by IBM and WEC, which is a non-profit organisation that advances sustainable development through the business practices of global companies. The first meeting of the council will be held next month in Orlando, Florida.
IBM’s vice president of corporate environmental affairs Wayne Balta said: “As part of IBM’s commitment to environmental leadership, we are always interested in how today’s best practices can transform sustainability in business.”
He added: “Innovation goes a long way to accelerate sustainability and we look forward to collaborating with other like-minded companies.”
