Clare County Council (CCC) is getting tough on non-payment and has warned businesses, including a hotel, hairdresser, pub, farm, butcher and service station, that supplies will be stopped as a result of long-term non-payment of water service charges.
In some cases, the outstanding charges, which range from €600 to €42,000, date back to 2007.
According to the council, each business has received between four and six payment reminders along with personnel visits. The disconnections will be carried out in accordance with Local Government Legislation.
A CCC spokesperson said: “Having endeavoured to get engagement from the businesses concerned, Clare County Council, as the water services authority cannot continue to provide these services.”
The council also warned businesses that further disconnections are anticipated in the coming months, as it looks to recoup non-payments.
