Newly built homes too small for recycling

The commission, better known as CABE, surveyed the owners of 2,500 private newly built homes to ask their views on space.

Of those the vast majority, 72%, said they did ‘not have enough space for the three small bins required to recycle properly,’ according to the survey.

CABE’s chief executive, Richard Simmons, blamed local authorities and developers for allowing and building homes that were too small.

He said: “We need local planning authorities to ensure much higher space standards before giving developments the go-ahead.”
