Dr Stephen Schneider, a Stanford university professor and 2007 Nobel winner, was talking at an event to launch his book Science as a Contact Sport at the Copenhagen climate talks.
Dr Schneider, who’s one of the world’s foremost authorities on climate change, has had a controversial career since originally claiming carbon emissions would cool the planet before realising the opposite was happening.
The change in thinking, prompted by new findings in his work, has been used by his critics to dismiss his current work.
He said: “Global warming is unequivocal that’s from the IPCC that’s a very strong word for physicists and chemists.
“And that’s because it’s based on an overwhelming preponderance of evidence, the overwhelming literature shows there is a problem.
“If somebody can look at all those papers and all that data and conclude there’s no preponderance they’ve either not looked at it correctly or their ideological spinners and that’s my view.”
