When built, the Magnetic Park Energy Centre will utilise combined heat and power (CHP) through gasification to generate renewable energy from residual waste.
A launch event was held yesterday (March 1) in Desborough where Oliver Heath gave a keynote address on whetherowning an eco-home automatically leads to an eco-lifestyle.
He said: “I have spent many years promoting the 3R’s – reduce, reuse, recycle – as an integral element of a sustainable approach to both individual living and to communities. I am delighted to see a fourth R – recovery – scheme such as this come into the public domain for consultation.”
In April 2011 an outline planning application was submitted to Kettering Borough Council for a residential-led, mixed use development on the land to the north of the town.
The proposal highlighted an energy centre as a sustainable solution for the supply of heat and power to new homes and existing businesses as well as a sustainable method of treating residual waste.
The facility will be built by Origin Renewable Energy, a company who aims to deliver localised renewable energy capacity to new developments in the UK.
