Oral meeting set for pipeline discussions

Part of the hearing in Listowel will be formed by discussions on the compulsory purchase orders for land in the pipeline which went into public notice during August.

Around ten landowners have opposed against the 25km pipeline, which will connect the terminal at Ralappane in County Derry to the gas network at Leahys near Foynes in County Limerick.

An Bord Pleanala has revealed the details of the hearing, with further discussions set to revolve around route selection and the possibility of linking the pipeline to the Tarbert and Moneypoint power stations.

The pipeline and the terminal is set to be constructed by Shannon LNG and earlier this year the terminal was given the go ahead as long as it met around 40 set conditions.

Safety Before LNG, a residents group which objected against the pipeline, has welcomed the hearing.

The group aims to protect the Shannon Estuary and its members.
