SLR’s 2040 Net Zero target validated by Science Based Targets initiative

Last updated: 7th March 2024

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has validated SLR’s 2040 Net Zero targets, commending these within the most ambitious designation available through the SBTi process.

In line with global emissions goals to keep warming below 1.5°C, our validated targets include our near-term and long-term gross reduction targets to reduce Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 42% by 2030, and 90% by 2040; as well as Scope 3 GHG emissions by 25% by 2030 and 90% by 2040 respectively.

Our focus will be on direct emissions reductions within our operations, alongside opportunities for decarbonising our value chain. Furthermore, residual emissions will be neutralised in line with the SBTi criteria before reaching net-zero emissions.

The SBTi is a global body enabling businesses to set ambitious emissions reductions targets in line with the latest climate science. It is focused on accelerating companies across the world to halve emissions before 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions before 2050. The SBTi is a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global CompactWorld Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

Bradley Andrews, CEO at SLR says: “I’m determined and optimistic about where we are going with net-zero and how we are bringing robust sustainable solutions into the market. As global leaders in sustainability advice and science, setting credible science-based emission reduction targets is key to ensure that our climate action is impactful. We have worked with numerous companies to support them on this journey, and we are proud to share that SLR now too, has validated targets”.

As part of the SBTi’s Target Validation Team’s evaluation, it was determined that SLR’s long-term target(s) are aligned with the SBTi’s 1.5°C mitigation pathways for reaching net-zero by 2050 or sooner.
