Public transport comes under review

An implementation programme designed to better the cost, efficiency and environmental performance of Dublin’s bus network will be based upon a review led by Deloitte.

“Bus users deserve a better bus service and this report sets out how we can make that happen,” Mr Dempsey said.

“Never has there been a greater demand for quality public transport services yet bus passenger numbers are falling.”

With a view to limiting carbon emissions, Mr Dempsey added: “This report shows that Dublin Bus does not need more buses, they just need to better use the buses they already have.”

CIE have been given funding of more than Euro 300m to address the re-shaping of the transport services, including Bus Eireann and Dublin Bus, in and out of the capital.

Meanwhile, the Dublin Transport Authority will be set up later in the year.
