Results of the 2008 Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) survey indicate that only three of 55 towns surveyed were deemed ‘seriously littered’ compared to nine out of 29 in 2002.
Commenting on the latest findings, Mr Kitt sais: “We must avoid complacency, but it is encouraging to see the steady improvement in litter levels in towns and cities across the country, as reported by IBAL.
“Despite the current economic slowdown, the Government and I, remain deeply committed to tackling litter pollution in this country. I think that the 2008 litter league results prove that, working together, we can make a difference.”
According to the IBAL report, two-thirds of towns surveyed are now ‘clean to European norms’.
