The Alliance for Bio-Integrity launched a suit against the FDA in May 1998. It alleges that the FDA’s own files show that the federal agency compromised its commitment to science-based policy making, by ignoring the views of several scientists who advise the FDA on food safety.
Arguing that the FDA ignored scientists’ advice and, instead, classified GE foods as essentially the same as other foods, the Alliance suggests that the FDA’s approval of the sale of GE foods was illegal.
