Samsung: Risk & resilience in manufacturing

This presentation, talked through by Samsung Europe’s head of sustainability Bill Skeates, explains exactly what the tech giant does to manage its social and environmental risk. 

It includes specific case studies such as a campaign from Friends of the Earth which forced Samsung to  declare the use of tin from Indonesia in its products; and a similar campaign from Greenpeace which affected Samsung’s use of APRIL pulp in its supply chain.

Speaking exclusively to edie at Sustainability Live after this presentation, Skeates revealed that Samsung is now also considering the adoption of innovative business models such as servitisation and leasing schemes in a bid to cut e-waste and create more resilient revenue streams. 

Skeates said the company was also working with London estate agents to examine the feasibility of leasing electronic equipment in fully-furnished rental properties. Read the full story here.
