Career diplomat John Ashton has been appointed as the UK’s first ever special envoy for climate change. Mr Ashton, who played a vital role in persuading Russia to ratify the Kyoto Protocol, will work under Margaret Beckett and will work to persuade governments to take more action on reducing carbon emissions.
