The website Mapping Environmental Change has hosted a real-time discussion with seven prominent authors and online ‘chat room’ discussions continue on the following subjects:
- Overview – the environment in the last ten years
- Policy and legislation
- Economic development and the environment
- Public participation in environmental progress
Participation is open to anyone who would like to register for discussion.
To kick off the debates, US AID invited environmental authors to discuss the issues with interested members of the public via a real-time chat on 7 December. The participating authors were:
- Ruth Greenspan Bell, an environmental lawyer for the International Institutional Development and Environmental Assistance at Resources for the Future
- Eva Kruzikova, an associate professor of environmental law at Charles University, Prague
- Gleb Moralev, environmental project co-ordinator at Institute for Sustainable Communities
- Viatcheslav Vladimirovich Pankov, manager at the Centre for Practical Geoecology and project director of the online Russian Green Pages
- Krassen Stanchev, executive director of the Institute for Market Economics, Sofia, Bulgaria
- Volodymyr Tykhyy, manager of the a US Environmental Protection Agency/ UN Development Programme demonstration environmental assessment projects in Ukraine
- Alma Raissova, US AID’s environment and policy specialist in Kazakhstan
- Magda Toth Nagy, head of the public participation programme at the Regional Environmental Centre for Eastern and Central Europe in Budapest, Hungary.
