VIDEO: Beatles’ Starr puts boot into water shortages

The limited-edition boot, which will only come in Ringo’s own show size – a men’s size eight – went on sale on ebay yesterday (December 1) at a starting bid of $250 a pair.

The auction is part of the ‘Canvas that Cares’ initiative, set up by clothing and shoe brand Timberland, which aims to raise funds for non-profit organisations through the sale of custom-designed, limited edition Earthkeepers footwear.

Timberland is hoping the 75 limit-edited boots, which have each been individually signed by Ringo, will raise at least $18,750 in funding for WaterAid.

Commenting on the project, Ringo, said: “For 30 years, WaterAid has brought clean water to millions of people in the world’s poorest communities. This partnership with Timberland will allow others to make a real difference in these people’s lives, and the boots are a reminder I’m with them every step in this journey.”

In a short video Ringo explains his reasons for supporting WaterAid and the ‘Canvas for Care’ auction.

Timberland chief brand officer Mike Harrison, said: “We’re thrilled about the Canvas That Cares program, and could not think of a better partner for our launch than Ringo Starr.”

The auction is set to end December 11 and bids can be made here.
