X Factor style public vote for protest targets

Organisers of the Great Climate Swoop are giving people the chance to choose between two coal fired power stations.

The ‘winner’ of the vote, which started today (10 August) will then be targeted in what the organisers say will be a ‘peaceful protest.’

The two power stations, Drax in Yorkshire and Ratcliffe On Soar in Nottinghamshire, emit more than 30m tonnes of carbon a year, according to the group.

A website running the vote also has made up comments from both stations where they outline their claims to be the biggest polluter and also criticise each other.

In a mocked up interview with the vote the Great Climate Swoop portray Drax as saying Ratcliffe is run by ‘a bunch of bleeding heart liberals’ who hit back calling their rival is a ‘backwater yokel’.

Organisers say the winner will be closed down ‘peacefully, democratically and together, to say enough is enough’ on the 17 and 18 October.
