Yorkshire launches virtual training centre

The £250,000 Skills Challenge project involves partnerships between the Forum, the University of Bradford’s Department of Environmental Science, Keighley College and Keighley and District Training Association Ltd (KADTAL) to provide skills training on sustainable development and environmental management for businesses and community groups throughout Yorkshire.

Attempting to meet the challenge of lifelong learning, YVCEE reduces the need for people to travel and enables rapid update and distribution of training material on topics as diverse as eco-design, environmental performance management, social dimensions of sustainability, and business and the stakeholder economy. The centre aims to become a leading edge provider of education and NVQ training into the next millennium.

Also involved in the initiative is BT, supplying ISDN and video-conferencing equipment, and Yorkshire Water, which is interested in developing bespoke training courses for the water industry. Additional support exists in the form of the area’s Single Regeneration Budget.

The YVCEE is planned to be launched in March 1999. Contact: Andy Nolan, University of Bradford, tel: 01274 235394
