Following the earthquake of on February 22 aftershocks continue to be felt in the country’s beleaguered capital Christchurch.
Aftershocks this afternoon, measuring 5.5 and 6 on the Richter Scale, have fortunately only injured a handful of people, but again devastated the city’s power infrastructure.
A Government spokesman said this morning: “Christchurch Airport was temporarily closed while safety inspections took place, but the airport has now re-opened and is operating normally.
“Tourism New Zealand will continue to provide information for visiting tourists and tourism operators in the Christchurch and Canterbury area.”
