The closed loop model in Holton, Suffolk, will reduce the company’s waste handling and energy costs by enabling it to manage its own waste on-site instead of contracting it out, and cutting down on lorry movements.
The biogas generated from the facility will be used to produce electricity and heating, supplying 16% of the company’s energy needs. It will also lead to a C02 reduction of 2,800 tonnes.
Bernard Matthews has entered into a joint venture with Glendale Power, a development company specialising in anaerobic digestion, known as Holton Renewable Power to deliver the project. Technology supplier is Xergi.
