BT sustainability report highlights waste and energy cuts

The company reduced the amount of waste it sent to landfill by 69% following a switch to using a specialist recycling company, and reduced energy use by 2.5% despite increasing demand.

It also cut CO2e emissions by 759 kilotonnes – equivalent to a 59% reduction in carbon intensity (CO2e/ value added) from 1997 base year.

Other initiatives saw the launch of a new procurement standard to encourage low carbon innovation among its suppliers and a new energy efficient Home Hub wireless router that uses a third less power.

The company says that in the last year it has added “being a responsible and sustainable business leader” to its strategic priorities. This is BT’s 10th annual combined social and environmental report.
