Chesterfield Council partners with Veolia to recycle mixed plastics

The contract, which starts in November, also includes the retention of the residual and green waste collection services that have been provided by Veolia in partnership with the council for the past eight years.

Veolia has committed to investing over £3M in a new fleet of collection vehicles that will be fuelled by bio-diesel. In addition, the contractor will supply blue wheeled bins to facilitate the collection of recyclables.

Veolia’s chief operating officer, Tom Spaul, said: “Through this new contract we will provide residents with a more convenient, cleaner service. We also anticipate that the new recycling scheme will help increase recycling rates supporting Chesterfield in achieving its carbon footprint targets.”

Chesterfield Borough Council leader, John Burrows, added: “This new service offers more opportunities for residents to recycle and will double the amount of materials that we collect at kerbside for recycling.”
