The strategy document details the legal and technical approaches the council will take to deal with contaminated land.
In particular, it sets out how the Authority intends to work with members of the public and key partners on this issue, to protect public health and the environment, and to promote economic development within the county.
Joanne Waller, head of environment, health and consumer protection said: “The council has a specialist team of officers dedicated to the review, assessment and remediation of contaminated land.
“We are fully committed to working with our communities in the development of the Contaminated Land Strategy and are therefore seeking the views of residents as part of this process”
Copies of the Draft Contaminated Land Strategy are available in local libraries, Council Offices and on line at www.durham.gov.uk.
A feedback form is also available for anyone who would like to have a say.
Comments must be returned to Durham County Council by March 1, 2010.
