Electricity Tax Hike Part of Norwegian Environment Budget

In line with a general effort to lower electricity consumption, the government wants to raise taxes on electricity by NKr 0.025 (US $0.003) per kWh. At the same time, a base levy on oil of NKr 0.19 ($0.03) per litre is to be introduced to prevent consumers from switching to oil heat.

The government also proposes to develop by the end of next year new national targets for reducing noise pollution. Along with measures in the areas of waste management, chemicals policy, biodiversity, and sustainable consumption these targets will form part of the local Agenda 21 program in Norway, which is to be strengthened next year.
