The Sub-committee, which expects to hold oral evidence sessions for the inquiry in May and June, is calling for submissions on:
- the effectiveness of UK biodiversity policies
- progress on Habitat and Species Action Plans
- the priorities for implementing the Species and Habitat Action Plans
- the co-ordination of biodiversity planning between national and local agencies
- the adequacy of arrangements for monitoring and reporting changes in species and habitats
- current implementation of the Habitats and Birds Directives
- the adequacy of the Natura 2000 network
- measures to protect biodiversity outside protected sites
- measures taken by UK Government Departments to help achieve biodiversity targets
- how to integrate biodiversity concerns with other government policies
Committee specialist, Dr Dave Taylor, told edie that the Committee will aim to report before the summer recess at the end of July, or as late as October of this year. “Unfortunately, we have no way of knowing which of these is the more likely,” he said.
