ESBI to build first windfarm

The firm’s first windfarm is to be situated on farmland in Crockagarran near Sixmilecross in County Tyrone, according to the Sunday Business Post.

Some 18 megawatts of electricity is expected to be generated by the farm, utilising six large wind turbine generators. This will be enough to power 10,500 homes.

Executive director of ESBI Michael McNicholas claimed that the development represents a commitment to renewable energy investment.

“The development is commensurate with the renewable energy objectives set out in ESB’s recently announced €22 billion investment plan, €11 billion of which will be directed at renewables,” he said.

ESB recently signed a multimillion-euro contract to supply renewable energy to telecoms corporation BT.
