Lebanon to sue Israel over air raid oil spill

The Lebanese Government has announced it plans to sue Israel for compensation for the oil spill which occurred during hostilities between the two countries when Israeli planes bombed a coastal power station, destroying its oil tanks and releasing their contents into the Mediterrenean.

Officials for the Lebanese Environment Ministry say cleaning up what is the country’s biggest ever environmental disaster is likely to cost in the region of US$100 million, but the total financial impact is likely to be much higher once the loss of the tourism and fishing industries are taken into account.
