Local council kits out social housing stock with solar

The council said it managed to install the photovoltaic panels before the Feed-in Tariff subsidy was cut.

As a result, the council said that whole streets in the borough are now kitted out with solar panels, enabling residents to save on their energy bills. Panels on the 3,000 homes are expected to generate 5MW of electricity and any surplus income will be reinvested back into council services.

The initiative forms part of the council ambition to reduce the borough’s carbon emissions by 50% by 2016.
