Makeover for River Lagan

The Big River Clean Up took place in the Lagan Valley Natural Park, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on Sunday, May 10.

The event was sponsored by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency and organized by the park managers, outdoor activity company Mobile Team Adventure and Scout groups from the region.

It was also supported by local authorities in Belfast, Lisburn and Castlereagh, the National Trust, Department of Culture Arts and Leisure and the local community.

Astatement from the NIEA said: “the Clean Up was a highly successful day with scouts and members of the public all taking part in the cleaning process.

“A number of canoes were launched with teams of scouts on board who worked hard all afternoon to remove various forms of waste from the Lagan.

“People of all ages were taking part and assisting with removing litter from the river banks and the surrounding area.”
