The scheme, which boasts a 99.1% recycling and recovery rate of the decommissioned units, recently got underway in partnership with specialist WEEE reprocessor Overton Recycling, based in Stourbridge.
Speaking exclusively to edieWaste, Mitsubish Electric’s sustainable solutions manager Martin Fahey said the initiative was set up in response to corporate end-user demand for an auditable, traceable scheme for end-of-life equipment, which isn’t covered under the WEEE Directive in the UK.
He said: “We had a previous scheme but it was quite limited and there was a charging structure involved – we wanted to go further. As far as I’m aware, we are the only manufacturer of these units now offerings a free-at-point-of-collection service, it’s pretty unique in the industry.”
