This year’s COP summit, which began in Katowice on Monday (3 December), marks the start of the two-year process under which governments will detail how they to deliver on their commitments to reduce emissions, made under the Paris Agreement in 2015.

This is an important field to watch for any corporate sustainability professional, as it will define what best practice in decarbonisation looks like and confirm which national and local policies are likely to be supporting business ambition in the near future.

edie's editorial team will therefore be running a series of quick-fire podcast episodes, briefing readers on the latest announcements and updates every two days throughout the two-week event, which concludes on 14 December.

On days one and two of the conference, rousing speeches from the likes of David Attenborough dominated the headlines, with the naturalist and TV personality warning delegates that global warming could bring about “the end of civilisation as we know it” without ambitious and immediate actions from governments.

Elsewhere, four major global banks have pledged to measure the climate-related impacts of their lending portfolios and assist companies they invest in with aligning their respective sustainability strategies with the Paris Agreement goals – a move which has received much praise from climate experts and sustainability professionals already.

With all this in mind, edie has rounded up all the key news and views from the first two days of the conference in this mini podcast episode, hosted by our reporter Sarah George.
