Sustainable Business Covered Podcast: Delivering transformational action at the Sustainability Leaders Forum (Part One)

Epsiode 112 of edie’s long-running Sustainable Business Covered podcast sees the editorial team recording live from London’s Business Design Centre as Day One of the three-day conference comes to a close. 

Content director Luke Nicholls, content editor Matt Mace and senior reporter Sarah George reflect on a jam-packed day that started with moving keynote speeches from Peace One Day founder Jeremy Gilley, Environment Agency Chair Emma Howard-Boyd and globally renowned climate scientist Sir David King.

Other highlights included a panel debate on the pros and cons of carbon offsetting, featuring representatives from Polestar, Heathrow Airport, Anglian Water, ClimatePartner and Standard Chartered. And, of course, an edie Forum wouldn’t be complete without excellent chairing from Solitaire Townsend at Futerra.

Luke, Matt and Sarah then hand the metaphorical podcast baton back to themselves in the morning, kick-starting a relay of three exclusive interviews conducted throughout the duration of Day One (8 March) of the Forum. 

First up, Sarah sits down with Belu Water’s chief executive Natalie Campbell, who is fresh off the stage following a panel talk on delivering a just transition to net-zero. Campbell updates us on how Belu Water turned the challenges of the pandemic into opportunities and on its work to reduce plastic packaging. She also gives her thoughts on what ‘purpose-led’ truly means for businesses in 2022. 

Next on the agenda is a pre-lunch interview with the UK Government’s COP26 Unit’s head of the nature campaign, David Saddington. Following on from a leadership stream on the delivery of net-positive outcomes for nature, Saddington reflects on the COP26 outcomes for biodiversity. He also provides his tips for effective sustainability communications in an age of disinformation and overwhelm. 

Our third and final guest speaker is Bupa’s head of environment and climate action Julia Giannini, Matt asks her about the healthcare giant’s planned journey to net-zero and gets her views on how we can better recognise, communicate, and act along the intersections of climate, health, wellbeing, nature and peace.
