Pilot on-the-go recycling bins target boaters and tourists

The recycling bin at South Walsham Broad is one of seven being installed at Broads landing stations. The bins are designed with special openings in the lid, to limit the placement of non-recyclable items.

The seven sites participating in the pilot are South Walsham Staithe car park, Ranworth Staithe, Upton Boat Dyke, Salhouse Broad car park, Reedham Ferry, Coltishall Common car park and the former Pontiac Roadhouse site on the Acle Straight.

District council portfolio holder for environmental excellence, John Fisher, said Broadland had been working closely with parish councils and the Broads Authority to identify the sites.

“We all feel it’s very important to give people using the Broads the same recycling opportunities that they generally have at home. If the trial is a success we will look to roll it out to other suitable sites.”
