Recyclable waste left uncollected in Dublin

Waste company Oxigen failed to collect green recycling bins in some areas of Dublin over Christmas leaving many households with a surplus of waste.

The firm lost the contract to operate the green bin service for Dublin City Council to Greyhound Recycling before Christmas, but was due to collect bins until New Year’s Eve.

Greyhound Recycling managing director Brian Buckley commented: “The major issue for us now is to get people’s bins emptied and get recycling rates up.

“Our teams are working flat out and are committed to getting this sorted out in the worst affected areas by the end of the week.”

According to the Herald, some properties will have to wait until mid-January before their recyclable waste can be collected.
