Russia plans international nuclear waste disposal service

The latest news follows a recent leak evidencing secret negotiations with Swiss utilities to export waste from Switzerland see related article. According to the new documents, Russia is offering to import waste from from Switzerland, Germany, Spain, South Korea, Taiwan and possibly Japan.

The document also refers to a ‘special plan’ to get round Germany’s forthcoming ban on exports of nuclear waste, by actually reconstructing Siemens’ unused Alkem plant (currently being decommissioned) in Russia.
