Schroeder in Ukraine for Chernobyl negotiations

In 1995, G7 countries promised the Ukraine over one billion dollars to support the construction of two new nuclear power plants and enable the closure of the infamous Chernobyl complex. Faced with increasing anti-nuclear pressure, and a general trend of phasing out nuclear power in Europe, the German Chancellor is attempting to persuade the Ukraine to build conventional power stations instead.
