Sustainability stats: This week in numbers

The solar industry in South Korea also received a boost this week as electronics giant LG announced a plan to invest $435m in tripling the production capacity of one of its soalr panel manufacturing plants.

It was a slightly less auspicious week for companies here in the UK as a Freedom of Information request submitted by edie revealed that less than half of qualifying companies are fully compliant with ESOS, despite the original deadline passing on 5 December.

On the waste front, a new report revealed the growth potential for the European remanufacturing industry, but couldn’t explain why there appears to be a ‘systemic blockage’ in the UK market. Bedfordshire-based anaerobic digestors Biogen also revealed exactly how much energy they produced using those Christmas leftovers.

And finally, Elon Musk was making headlines again, unveiling new autopilot features in Tesla cars and proclaiming that vehicles that could not drive themselves would soon become a “strange anachronism“.
