The Ankerside Shopping Centre in Tamworth is the location for the first of seven national pilot schemes. The first phase of the project will run for six months and if successful, Britvic plans to roll out the programme in other areas of the country.
The Britvic Recycling Hub will give shoppers the chance to ‘drink, shop, and drop’ whilst on the go, depositing their used plastic bottles and beverage cans into a new dedicated recycling hub.
Every tonne of waste collected through the scheme will produce up to £100 worth of raw materials that will be locally recycled into new cans and bottles.
Britvic’s head of corporate affairs, Susan Turner, said: “We’re delighted to be launching Britvic’s first pilot recycling hub in Tamworth, and building on the town’s strong track record for reducing waste.
“Recycling is one of the simplest ways we can all help to create a cleaner, more sustainable local community. We hope the new scheme will make it even easier for everyone to take part in the process.”
The Tamworth pilot launches as new research by WRAP reveals that UK households throw out £12bn of waste a year, of which two thirds could be reused or recycled.
