Friends of the Earth’s (FoE) Talking Rubbish Awards aim to dump political and media recycling myths on the scrapheap – and show that those ministers who talk the most garbage don’t necessarily speak for the wider public.
People can vote for the recycling myth that is the biggest load of rubbish, whether its ‘bin police’, ‘bin taxes’ or ‘super rats’ feasting on rotting food waste.
Those in the firing line for their scaremongering comments are environment secretary Caroline Spelman, communities and local government minister Eric Pickles and his under-secretary Bob Neill.
The awards are being launched alongside FoE’s Talking half as much rubbish campaign, which calls on the Government to set the clear and simple goal of halving household residual waste by 2020.
